Changes to funding periods: how to help us support you

Actively engaging with your plan manager and/or support coordinator, making sure you understand the new funding periods and communicating your needs, can help us help you navigate these changes.

Communication is key

  • Reach out to your plan manager and let them know about your specific support needs, spending patterns and any changes in your circumstances.
  • Discuss with your support coordinator how funding periods affect your support plan and make sure the funding periods align with your schedule of supports.

Review and adjust

You can review your past spending to understand your typical usage and see where you need to adjust your spending.

Flexibility

If your needs or circumstances change, you should discuss potential options with your support coordinator or the NDIA.

Planning meetings

Be prepared to discuss your preferences and any concerns about the new funding periods during your planning meetings.

Did you know?

  • You can request longer funding periods to allow for more flexible access to your funding e.g. six months instead of one month periods.
  • A funding period can apply to the whole plan or specific support categories to make funds available at regular intervals and encourage consistent use.
  • Unused funds from one funding period will roll over to the next funding period within a plan. This means that at the end of a plan, unused funds won’t roll over to a new plan.
