Windermere's Support for the Voice Referendum: Building a Better Future Together

At Windermere, we embrace diversity, honour history, and stand united for a more equitable Australia. Today, we announce our support of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and advocate for a 'yes' vote in the forthcoming referendum on a First Nations Voice to Parliament.

Windermere’s Statement of Support

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live and work, who have never ceded their sovereignty. We acknowledge and respect the long histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their connection to land and sea, and their stewardship of these precious gifts that we now share.

We are proud that Australia is home to the oldest continuing living culture in the world. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have cared for and been connected to Country for more than 60,000 years. In this, they have enriched the lives of all Australians.

Windermere supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart and a ‘yes’ vote in the forthcoming referendum on a First Nations Voice to Parliament. We are committed to helping to build an understanding of how constitutional recognition and a Voice to Parliament can be an example of lasting change, one which improves outcomes for First Nations people and for all Australians.

We recognize the Uluru Statement as a historic mandate for change and believe that all Australians have a great responsibility to walk alongside our first Australians in the call for constitutional reform and in the need for truth-telling about the history and impact of colonisation.

We acknowledge and respect that there are differing points of view and approaches to implementing the requests of the Uluru Statement, and that some parts of the First Nations community do not align themselves with the Statement.

The purpose of Windermere’s work is to build people’s capacity to participate more fully in community life, by addressing the underlying causes of deep, persistent disadvantage and social exclusion, and believe the Voice to Parliament aims to do the same, by offering a path to justice, equity and self-determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We are thankful that the ‘Uluru Statement from the Heart’ has been shared with all Australian people and support the call for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament.

We believe that the Voice to Parliament offers a path to justice and lasting change, not just for First Nations people but for the betterment of all Australians. Together, we can create a more inclusive future where every voice is heard.
