Tayla brings with her six years of experience in youth work and youth homelessness in the community services space. Complete with a degree in Psychological Science, Certificate IV in Mental Health and a Master of Counselling, she draws from her knowledge and experience to fulfill her role as a Support Coordinator for Windermere.
During her time as a youth worker, Tayla found her work rewarding particularly when supporting young people with disabilities. It sparked her interest in the disability services industry which led her to Windermere.
“While working as a youth worker, I heard about Windermere and what a great and supportive workplace it is, so I’ve always been keen to work here,” she says.
Since joining Windermere in October last year, Tayla has been on a journey of learning, growth and building connections. She works with families to help them navigate their NDIS plans and links them with relevant services to help them make the best use of their funds.
“A lot of people don't realise how much support is available. My role is to help connect the dots so that they can build their capacity while staying within their allocated budget,” she explains.
Tayla also works with other organisations developing valuable connections that help her expand her knowledge and her capacity to support those she works with.
“I am always learning and that’s something that is important to me. I want to expand my knowledge on how I can best provide support.”
When it comes to developing her knowledge and skills, her team has been a vital source of support. She looks to them to find answers when faced with issues that she hasn’t experienced before.
“My experience here has been amazing. The team I work with are very supportive and always willing to help each other. It’s great to work with those who genuinely care about the people they support and everyone celebrates the wins,” she explains of her positive working environment.
Tayla also values the positive reinforcement she has received which has helped her face the many challenges in her role.
“My supervisor is very supportive and focuses on the strengths of everyone in the team and how to use those strengths to overcome barriers,” she explains.
While Tayla enjoys her learning experience it’s the work she does with families and individuals and the many interactions she has with them that she enjoys the most.
It’s not only at work that Tayla puts her creative muscle to work. When she’s not helping others live their best life, she indulges the artist in her, dabbling in writing and producing art using paints, charcoal and pastels. She also enjoys playing video games, spending time with her cat and two dogs and going for walks with her husband.
