The parenting program that works magic on challenging behaviours

From meltdowns and testing boundaries to just trying to get children to school on time, raising children is definitely not easy.

Many parents and caregivers find that having a consistent approach to fall back on during times of stress can help them break out of negative cycles and create a much happier family environment.

Not for profit Windermere is currently taking enrolments for a parenting group support program based on the popular 123 Magic philosophy.

“The program was developed by a psychologist and is evidence based. It’s been very much tried and tested by many children and parents over several decades,” says Melinda Kis, Windermere Family Services Worker and 123 Magic program coordinator.

The 123 Magic program provides straightforward advice and practical techniques to support both parents and their children. It also provides space for questions and discussion.

“One of the benefits of 123 Magic is that it gives families a framework to have a consistent approach to parenting and dealing with children’s behaviours,” says Melinda.

The three session program provides parents and caregivers with tools to manage challenging behaviours and to proactively encourage positive behaviours.

“Children’s brains work very differently to adults’ brains. So we have to alter our expectations accordingly, we can’t expect them to behave like mini adults,” says Melinda.

The 123 Magic Parenting and Emotion Coaching program is aimed at children aged 2 to 12 years. Windermere’s term 2 program will be offered online, commencing 18 May.
