What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can support you if you have a permanent or significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities.

The NDIS can also support your child if they have a developmental delay or require early childhood early intervention (ECEI) services.

How does the NDIS help you?

The NDIS provides reasonable and necessary support to Australians with disability, as well as their families and carers so that you can enjoy an improved quality of life.

Who is eligible for the NDIS?

The NDIS provides funding support if you:

• Are an Australian
• Are aged under 65 years
• Have a diagnosed disability or a developmental delay for children under the age of 7
• Have a permanent disability
• The disability significantly impacts on your daily life
• May require help from a person or equipment to do everyday things.

Benefits of the NDIS

The NDIS can help because it can provide funding so you can receive supports and services to:

• Enable you to undertake your daily activities
• Allow you to access individualised support
• Assist you to participate more fully in your community
• Give you more choice and control over the supports you receive
• Give you more choice and control over who you receive your supports from.

When trying to understand the NDIS it is useful to remember that the NDIS is based on your individual needs. The benefit of the NDIS is that your NDIS plan and goals are tailored to your unique needs and situation.
