There’s no place like home

On the 8th June, over 30 of Windermere’s most valued supporters gathered to celebrate the launch of our new Mums & Bubs House. Windermere’s Mums & Bubs program has been in existence since 2011, but due to overwhelming demand there are growing numbers of young mothers still needing our help.

This new house, which was generously donated for our use by Carl Strachan OAM, will provide housing
for up to 8 young mothers and their babies each year, which means we can provide direct support to
more young mothers who would otherwise be facing homelessness and the devastating instability that being homeless can bring.

As well as a roof over their heads, the program gives young mums the skills they need to live independently. They learn parenting skills, receive support to train and seek employment and are encouraged to forge links with the wider community.

We know the Mums & Bubs program works – since 2011 we’ve seen 48 young mothers and their babies come through the program, moving on to long term housing, paid employment, increased confidence and
improved skills in looking after themselves and their children.

As well as Carl’s incredible generosity, local businesses including Global Zone, Studio Kids, Zagame’s Family Restaurants, Sovereign Hotel Group, Montague Fresh, The Good Guys and Parklea, all came forward
to support us with donations of furniture, security systems, bedding and funds for the home.

Many thanks to all of you who have supported Mums & Bubs program and to Carl Strachan for his
continued support. Without your help, this program would not be possible – you continue to provide hope
and a bright future for many young mothers and their babies.
